FAFSA question: Please help!

When I filled it out on January, my mom could not find her documents, so I asked her what was her "adjusted" gross income. She told me to just estimate around $30,000 on the form because she couldn't find it in the stack. So I did. And I got a Pell Grant :)

Now I got into UCSD/UCSB/CSULB, and they are asking for my 1040 form; bear in mind, my mom finally found it a week or so and I looked on the adjusted gross income and it said it was ~$60,000!!!

My mom had given me her "work income" as opposed to the "adjusted." I HATE when they make these things so confusing! Plus it didn't help that English was not her first language so we got "lost in translation."

Now I remember the question asking to omit pensions, 401k's, etc. - unless, I am imagining this? Therefore, if I subtract these attributes, I would get around $28,000 which is roughly the $30,000 I had originally put.

Should I change this? I really don't want get in trouble and jeopardize my future education.

Although, I hate do it this late and then also receive nothing since my mom is not working anymore as of Summer 2009... :(

What should I do?

i had a similar problem last year.

Go to FAFSA now and change it... your school will get the updates and update it on the FAFSA website. Because if you do not do this now... you will stil have to submit your tax form later on to the financial aid office, and frolm that on beyond.. they might think you are lying big time !! i say go ahead and change it on FAFSA now...

I finally changed it and now the damn thing is giving me HIGHLIGHT flags!!! ***!!! I hate this $^$&^% application!

What should I do if I get “highlight flags?”
