FAFSA question

I looked at my uchicago admissions account a few minutes ago, and I found a new tab for FAFSA that wasn't there before. Would it be ok for me to turn in my FAFSA stuff now, even though I haven't been told of my admissions decision yet? From what I understand, the FAFSA report is sent to schools in order to compare the accepted students' aid requirements. Does this mean that I've already been accepted? or that they expect me to fill out the FAFSA form regardless of whether or not I was deferred or not?

Thanks

FAFSA is for the this years tax returns, so you literally can’t do it until about February

^^this is incorrect…the FAFSA for the next school year will be available on January 1, 2013. You can submit it on Jan 1 if you wish, with estimated numbers for your tax return and then update it when taxes are completed.

Where is this tab?

I’m freaking out now because I don’t see anything about the FASFA on my account…

schlaag - by an chance are you an athlete? just curious. My son doesn’t have the line item for FAFSA. BTW dukedad is right you can’t start it until Jan. 1, but you can start getting all the paperwork together now to make it easier then.

I am not an athlete, unless you count debate as a sport haha. And I swear that the FAFSA tab was there on Thursday and Friday, but I looked today and its not there anymore. It was a third tab above “income tax return” and “profile”, and had an X below “status”. I have no incentive to lie about something like this. I showed it to some friends too, because I thought something was weird. I actually have no idea whats going on.
