I applied for the 2013-2014 FAFSA. Should I apply for the 2012-2013 FAFSA to since I'm taking a summer class? I saw the deadline for that was June 30th 2013.

Yes, if you’re taking a class this summer, you will need to complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA.

You need to check YOUR college for that answer. Some will consider this summer part of 2012-2013 and others part of 2013-2014.

Here is a useful site: [Applying for Federal Direct Loans](http://www.direct.ed.gov/applying.html)

^^^ That “useful” site won’t help this student at all! S/he needs to contact the college financial aid office directly and find out which year’s FAFSA is required to get aid for summer classes. As thumper1 said, it varies from one school to another.

Agree, it depends on whether the school treats the summer as part of the preceding year or the following year. ask your school. Keep in mind that if the school treats the summer as part of the following year, any summer aid will come out of your total eligibility for the whole year so may reduce your aid for the rest of the year.

Are you only taking one class? For some aid, federal loans for sure, half time enrollment in a semester is required to be eligible. That usually means 6 hours in a semester based school.

If you will only be taking one class, only Pell will pay out (assuming you qualify for Pell) … no loans with less than half time status.
