Hello. I will have 2 kids in college next year and have filed separate FAFSA for each child. Our EFC came back as $11,500. This EFC number is shown under each child’s individual FAFSA. My question is… Is the $11,500 EFC total of what the government says we can afford to pay for college for both children or for each child?
Thank you
Angelo
The government does not determine what you will pay for college. The colleges determine what you will pay at each school.
The $11,500 FAFSA for each of your kids should be viewed as the minimum you will be paying for the 2020-2021 academic year…per kid.
On the FAFSA you should have indicated that two students would be in college. Did you do that? If so, each student has an EFC of $11,500.
An $11,500 EFC means you don’t qualify for federally funded grant money (Pell Grant) for either student.
Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I did indicate that two students would be in college.
