FAFSA question

I have a question pertaining to the FAFSA:

in the "info about the student" section, it asks

*Is the student male? (Most male students must register with the Selective Service to get federal aid.) (question 21) *

so I answer, yes, since I am male.

the next question asks:

*If the student is male (age 18-25) and not registered, answer "Yes" and Selective Service will register him (question 22). *

so, if I'm not 18 and I'm not registered, I check no to this question? Will this hurt my chances of getting aid.

Please help, thanks =)

If you are not 18-25, you answer no just as you would answer no to question 21 if you are female. Why would you think your chances of getting aid are hurt when you do not fall under the targeted category?

thanks for your response, jamimom

I was afraid my chances were hurt because it says "Most male students must register with the Selective Service to get federal aid." and i'm not registered with the selective service.

Yes...but they are very clear that they are discussing those between 18 and 25. If you are not yet 18, you cannot register with the Selective Service. You do that when you are 18.

ok thanks. Haha, I am so horribly ignorant when it comes to this financial aid stuff ;)

another quick question -

some of the schools on my list require me to submit the FAFSA by Feb 1 while others want it in April. my parents still haven't gotten all their tax forms and stuff yet from their employer and there's no way they'll get it before Feb 1. is it ok if I we write in estimates now and correct them later? also, is there anyway to just send the FAFSA to schools separately (I wanna send to the Feb 1 deadline schools first)?

Yes, you can send in estimates now and correct later.

My D applied to 9 schools. Since there is only room to list 6 schools on the FAFSA, we listed the ones with the soonest deadlines first and sent that. AFTER we received the confirmation email (this is very important) we went in and deleted those six schools, added the last 3 and sent that one.

Just remember that when you make any changes to make sure that each school receives a corrected version.

gracias, momofonly :)

I have exactly 6 schools that require the FAFSA so I think I'm just gonna list all 6 and when I do corrections, they'll all get them!

You got it...best of luck :)
