FAFSA question

Do you have to include your father's income if you are in your mother's custody and the father just pays child support? I'm asking because my mom's always unemployed and I think that I will qualify for 0 EFC if it's only my mom's income (or lack thereof)

If your parents are divorced or legally separated you only show the financial information of the parent (and their spouse if applicable) with whom you live. The child support would also be shown as untaxed income.

thanks a lot!

If you choose a school that uses the Profile (some private schools use this), you will have to provide info for your father, too.

Sometimes, FAFSA schools are not able to award you enough to bridge the gap between the cost of attendance and your need (that is, tuition/room/board-financial aid > 0). Keep that in mind as you look for schools. Even though you have an EFC of 0, that does not necessarily mean you will get enough aid that you actually will not have to pay anything. Plus, your aid package is likely to include loans. I am just making sure you understand, so you are not disappointed when your aid is processed.
