FAFSA Question

I filled out the information for the fafsa and used my mother as i am now living with her again while going back to school. Now i filed on my own last year, i know this doesnt matter because you have to be 24 to be considered independant. So i used my mothers 2008 tax information as i am living with her and do not talk to my father. Now my mom is still married to my step dad but they are seperated and he is not living with us or helping us so for father (or step father is says) i did not put anything.. Is this wrong or is it fine that i used my mothers information because i dont see how it can technically be right for me to use my step father as another contributeing member to the household if hes not living with us yet they are married still. They also file taxes seperately.

Any information would be appreciated to the context of my statement above.
Thanks, John

Yes, if your mother is separated you only use her financial information.

The FAFSA treats divorced, legally separated, and separated in the same fashion. You did the right thing.

Just be prepared to prove that your mom & stepdad live in two separate residences. If you are selected for verification, the financial aid office may very well require that proof (I would ask for it).
