Thinking ahead here . . . my child graduates high school in 2011. Older sibling is going to take an extra semester to graduate from college. So in the fall semester 0f 2011 I will have 2 students in college, then older child graduates.

When I fill out the Fafsa and Profile next January, can I answer that I will have 2 students in college, even though one will only be attending the first semester of that year?

we currently have 2 in college. be aware that you will likely reap the benefit of 2 in school for just the semester they are both attending. one of the schools sends a form each semester that must be signed by the other school confirming their attendance. i believe the second school confirms via some clearinghouse.

one other thought. most schools only consider undergrads. your case seems to be “on the fence”. technically undergrad, but i assume extra semester means more than 4 years? i would ask both schools what their policy would be just to be sure.

Yes, older child will still be an undergrad - it will be taking him 4 1/2 years to finish his engineering degree. Original plan was that we would not have 2 in college at once!
