Questions regarding Financial Aid

  1. Does the FAFSA affect college decision?
  2. Is it ok to submit FAFSA alone or do we need to submit both FAFSA and CSS Profile ?

If you are applying for aid, all schools will require FAFSA. Some schools will require CSS in addition, so it depends upon where you are applying.

Most schools are need blind, meaning the financial aid department is run independently from the admissions department and admissions doesn’t know if you need aid or how much.

A few schools are need aware, and those schools might not admit you if they can’t give you enough aid. Some are need aware for certain groups, like those on the wait list or international students.

If you need aid (even a loan) you have to file FAFSA and you have to file CSS if the school you are applying to requires it. It doesn’t do any good to get accepted and not be able to afford the school.
