I just got my SAR back online, and I get this message on my SAR comments:

[quote] Issues Affecting Your Eligibility
The Social Security Administration did not confirm that you are a U.S.
citizen. You must provide your school with documentation of your citizenship
status before you can receive federal student aid.

The thing is, I became a citizen in April of 2005; and I'm not sure that by sending documentation, do I send my US Passport of my Certificate of Naturalization? And would I send a copy of that to the colleges or not?

i recieved that same thing on my SAR....
i was like ***!?!!
i thought it was a mistake or that everyone got that message
do i send something to the schools now....or after i get a financial aid package....or will i even get a package before i get this stuff corrected??

Ok did you apply for certificate of citizenship? Sometimes when you recieve automatic citizenship through naturalization of your parent you need to apply additionally for certificate of citizenship. If that the case, redo your FAFSA and put your permanent resident number and you will be considered as eligeble non citizen.

i became a citizen over 5 years ago.... would i still have to apply for this "certificate of citizenship"...or is that just for the original poster???

Call the colleges you are applying to and ask for directions. I received the same message. Some colleges told me to send in a copy of my passport, and some told me to do nothing until I get accepted and decide to attend.

Yes, it does not matter how long ago you have become US citizen although I believe it does have some time limits like being born 1952?
anyway you need to fill form N-600 you can google it on the net it takes 6-9 months to be processed and cost around $300.
Colleges see this cituation all the time. Being permanent resident has same rules for federal scholarships etc. as US citizenship.

Don't waste your money filing for that unless the college (or something else)specifically requires it, because as I said above, many colleges just need a copy of your passport to verify your citizenship.

FAFSA also has a problem with old Pin numbers due to some check point required by SSA. It kicks the old number out saying that the SSNs do not match because SSA cannot hold up its end. FAFSA said they are working on a solution. One person said 9 days, another 2 days.

The PIN system is a joke. Why don't they just have a normal system?
