FAFSA Selective Service question

Hey...im filling out the FAFSA and im only 16 (almost 17)...i will be attending my first year of college this coming fall. What do i have to put for the Fafsa question:

"Most male students must register with Selective Service to receive federal student aid. If you are not registered, select Register me".

The options for this question are "blank" and "register me". Which do i put. Please help!

Blank, because you’re not yet in the timeframe for registration. (17 years and 3 months.)

I will still receive financial aid if i select “blank” right?

bump…

Yes…you cannot register since you’re not old enough to do so. When you turn 18, you must register in order to be eligible for any federal student aid, including loans.

You can always say register me and in my S’s case they registered him when he was eligible. At the worst they will send you a letter you cannot register now.

Yes, don’t leave it blank… say yes and they will automatically register him when its time… if you don’t the fin aid office will require all sorts of documents from your son (delays). If you aren’t old enough yet, its just easier to say yes and forgo all the probable delays.

We said “yes” when S was 17 and the Fafsa went through fine. Then, near his birthday, he received a postcard to register.

My S was 17 last year when we filed FAFSA, and he checked register me. When his 18th birthday rolled around, he got a postcard from SS confirming his registration.
