FAFSA SSA Income Death of parent

A mother is receiving SSA income for three minor children because her husband died several years ago. Is she required to put this nontaxable income on the FAFSA form?

Survivor’s benefits from Social Security are not asked for on the FAFSA, but we had to report the amount received (other than for the student applying) on the CSS Profile.

^^^Agree w/retrolady, it doesn’t have to be reported as untaxed income on the FAFSA.

This is what I was told by the FASFA help line. I asked specifically if my daughters SS survivor benefits that she started recieving in Jan and will be ending in April had to be reported anywhere on the FASFA (they were not taxable and she will not be filing taxes). So we did not report them, but now she is required by one of her schools to file a Statement of Non-filing that does require it to be reported and to confuse things even more they are requesting a Dependent Verification form that I can’t figure out if they are asking us to report the benefits on there even if they aren’t required on the FASFA.
