After my FAFSA was processed, it says that they weren't able to confirm that I'm a citizen. We gained citizenship about a year and a half ago. I got a letter from one college saying that I need to send a copy of my passport to the Department of Homeland Security, but the FAFSA website says to send a copy to each school. What should I do? Send a copy to all schools or just the DHS for verification?

The citizenship verification, ie passport or citizenship papers, needs to be sent to the school(s). You will also want to get it straightened out with the government, either through DHS or Social Security Admin...so this doesn't create a flag again next year.

Call ur skools n ask specifically what they want, cuz u dun wanna mail fings, and find out itz not what they want. Also call up the social security admin so you want have these problems again. hmmm... lots of ppl having citizen verfication problems lately...

The citizenship problems have increased tremendously due to 9-11. And with the new mandates put into place by DHS within the last couple of years...it is only going to get worse. I have seen US born citizens flagged with citizenship issues...it's a hassle, but at least one which can easily be taken care of!
