Okay...about 3 weeks ago, my husband and I met with the FA of the school and submitted all of our papers including the verification worksheet and our tax returns. We both had 0 EFC when we first filed our FAFSA and was chosen for verification. Early this afternoon, we both got an email notification from FAFSA with a link to our corrected SAR, and our EFC is still 0. The email said--"The Financial Aid Administrator (FAA) at your school has made corrections to your application." So, I presume that our information have indeed been verified and was entered into the FAFSA system. Now, what happens next now that we have received the email notification and our EFC's are still 0? Is this the part where the school would send us a mail telling us how much grant we qualify for? We're going to a public community college then would later on transfer to Univ. of Maryland. We're just really anxious as to what will happen next.

Glad to here it is still 0. When you say your SAR you do mean SARs right? You should each have one.

Yes the school should send you notification of your aid offers. How they do it will depend on the school. My son’s school does it by snail mail. My daughter’s it is all online. Neither does any by email. Check with the school.

With a 0 EFC you should be eligible for the full Pell grant. That is $5350 for the year, $2675 for the semester.

Sorry…I meant SARs. We both got two separate emails. I think our school does it by snail mail. So, does it mean at this point that it’s just a matter of waiting for the letter from the school? Or will the school still need to do something else on their end? I’m sorry if I sound very anxious. This is our first time applying for FAFSA. We’ve already registered for our classes for the spring semester. The $5350/year or $2675/semester is good for full-time, right? So, we’ll be getting less because we’ve only registered for 9 credits each or 3/4 time.

Yes you’ll get less if you are not full time. For 3/4 time you should get around 3/4 or $2006

Thank you, swimcatsmom. That amount would still be a huge help. I am afraid to expect as I’m always paranoid that something might go wrong. At the same time, I can’t help not to be excited.

Hang in there, Lexie … you are almost there! Check your school’s financial aid website. It should tell you how they communicate your awards to you. My school does it all through our student web portal. Students log in, click on their financial aid tab, and click on “View my awards.” They can accept awards online, and there is info regarding loans.

It’s been 8 days since we received the email notification from FAFSA that our EFC still remained 0 after verification. Since there was no office yesterday because of the big snow storm last weekend, the processing got pushed back, and for us, it’s a big push-back because today is the last day before the winter/Christmas break. Which means, if they don’t finish figuring out how much our awards are going to be before the end of the day, we won’t find out until January 4th, which is 2 weeks from now. What an agonizing wait! Anyway, there is a section on the school’s online services where I can find out the status of the documents and a section where I can find out how much the award/s is/are. As of today, the verification process is in its final stage. I’ve been checking the status of the award online and it’s still $0… Speaking of anxiety…haha! I’ve usually been very patient, but this one really tests my patience.

umm stupid question…I thought you could only submit the FAFSA after doing taxes after January? O_O

She was applying for aid for spring 2010 which is part of the 2009-2010 school year so requires the 2009-2010 FAFSA using 2008 taxes.
