Hi guys!
I was just wondering do colleges ask for financial aid verification documents after you’ve been accepted to the school? Or is it before a decision has been made?
It varies. This year the FAFSA is using 2015 tax information and most families have filed the final tax documents and can use the DRT so the info is verified immediately (there are other things verified, but taxes/income is the most common). In the past, many people were using estimates so verification was pretty common, with some schools verifying every applicant, some verifying 1 out of 3. We’ll have to see if verification happens less this year.
@twoinanddone ok thanks!
verification is happening. I’m not halfway through and my school already has me flagged for verification. they have ensured one thing for sure, when my student is done, they will never, ever see one red cent of donation from me. ever.
If parent or student didn’t file a tax return, I think they have to verify income.
