<p>It is my understanding that EVERYONE files FAFSA (using the federal methodology). In addition, many private schools require the CSS (using the institutional methodology). The FAFSA immediately generates an EFC Estimated Family Contribution. Do the institutions that require the additional CSS form, calculate a different EFC? And if so, where would or when would you see that figure?</p>
<p>First, there are a small handful of colleges that do not use the FAFSA. Principia is one (or at least it used to be).</p>
<p>When will you find out your family contribution with profile schools? You will find out when you receive your financial aid award. </p>
<p>In the meantime, for a good estimate for those Profile schools, run YOUR family finances through each separate Net Price Calculator. The NPC can be found on each college website. Just be alerted that if your parents are divorced, own their own business or are self employed, or own real estate in addition to your primary residence…the NPC accuracy is questionable.</p>
