FAFSA vs PROFILE

Do you need to send both FAFSA and PROFILE to the schools that accept them? Many of my schools accept both do we need to send them both?

If the school requires both you MUST send both. Otherwise you will not be considered for aid.

I've never heard of a school requesting either, but I have heard of them requesting both. A lot of private schools require you to send both because the FAFSA is used for federal funding whereas the PROFILE is used for private funding, or funding from the school. So, if they want both, you MUST give them both. However, if you are able to pay for school, and you only want to be eligible for merit based aid, then just submit the FAFSA.

thanks :) I've got my work cut out for me then

The only schools that will not request a FAFSA are those who do not accept federal funds. Grove City is one that comes to mind. In that case, I do believe you fill out their own form. FAFSA is required by all other schools because it puts the applicant and family through a federal clearing house of info and then calculates the eligibility for federal and state funds which is usually the base of all financial aid awards. The schools generally want the applicant to exhaust those sources, first before they put in their own funds towards the student.

Jamimom is right, just about every school requires the FAFSA. The Profile is a less-common requirement, but is often used by private colleges who want more in-depth information. Note, too, that most colleges have their own financial aid application, which may range from a very simple form that acknowledges your interest in financial aid to a more detailed form that asks questions different than those on the FAFSA or Profile.
