FAFSA & Work/Study Income

When a student has income from their Work/Study, the FAFSA specifically asks under "Additional Financial Information" how much was earned from this work/study. The question is this -- do you include the work/study amount under the "Adjusted Gross Income/Wages/How Much Did You Earn From Working" categories as well?

My son had another part-time job in addition to the work/study and I'm uncertain whether the Adjusted Gross Income should include both jobs and if so, whether the FAFSA will know that this total amount (e.g. $2,000 total income) includes the amount made from the work/study (e.g. $500) as part of this amount. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks so much.

Yes, Adjusted Gross Income (known as ‘AGI’) includes work study income.

Yes, work study, taxable scholarships and all other wages are included in the AGI. You then report to fafsa how much the work study is and taxable scholarship on different line items because they deduct this from your agi to lower the efc calculation

Thank you and FLtoWashu for the responses.
