FAFSA year two

So as I understand it the FAFSA needs to be completed each year you need financial aid. Does someone notify you that you need to complete it? or do you just log into your existing FAFSA and enter the new figures when they are available? or does FAFSA automatically update based on your tax return for that year and you only confirm?

Thanks!

You will have to complete it again for each year you need financial aid.
The good news is that at some schools the deadline for continuing students is much later – my son’s school has a “priority filing” date of April 1st for FAFSA.
Check the financial aid pages for your school for the deadline.

My son’s school also sent around an email explaining this, but I wouldn’t rely on being notified.

Your daughter might get the reminder notice… that’s what happens with my kid’s school.

In many but not all schools, the deadline for filing is later for returning students. You can go to the schools’s website and click on financial aid or do a search on the site and most likely find the filing deadline.

One good thing about FAFSA is that the site now saves a lot of the basic data from the first year you file, so it’s not quite a hassle.

I don’t think my daughter’s school sent me a reminder last year about the FAFSA but I did pick up the due date somewhere on the website, it might have been in her financial aid account. In addition to the FAFSA I also had to file the CSS profile again. But, yes the deadline was much later - I think was in April.

I got a postcard in the mail yesterday reminding me to file for the upcoming school year.

Do you keep using the same pin for FASFA that you established when you first filed?

Yes, use the same PINs every year.
