I'm sort of confused on how often I am suppose to fill out the fafsa form. I filled one out last year. Now that it's a new year do I have to fill one out again for this year? Or am I able to wait until like june or july to fill one out for next year?

You need to submit the FAFSA each year after you have filed your income taxes, to be eligible for aid the following school year. The deadline for federal financial aid purposes is June 30. Your college probably enforces an earlier deadline if you want to reapply for institutional aid. (At mine it’s April 15.) If your state distributes state financial aid via FASFA, they may have their own deadline too. (California’s is March 2.)

Bottom line is, it won’t hurt to submit it as soon as you have filed your taxes for 2011.

To clarify, the technical limit is not the June 30 before the school year starts- it’s the June after. For example, the deadline for the 2011-2012 FAFSA is THIS June 30.

You need to fill one out every year. The earlier the better. Each school has different deadlines. Just file it as soon as possible and get it out of the way.

My bad, thanks for the clarification!
