Confused on this stuff if anyone can shed some light

If you were accepted ED, they want it by Feb 15 with 2013 tax info. I don’t believe it would be necessary nor appreciated to send them 2012 info on the FAFSA now since you’re already in the system and it’s not what they’re requesting on the financial aid site. Anyone else care to weigh in on this?

I went ahead and submitted with 2012 info. FAFSA tells you to update it with 2013 info as soon as it is available. I highly doubt there is any harm in submitting now and simply updating later.

I wasn’t sure since the website says to submit for 2013 and says something about not submitting duplicate info. I think submitting an early FAFSA is recommended for RD and possibly smaller schools that have fewer funds to disperse …but I’m not an expert.

I think it depends on the situation. For example, with my family nothing is changing except for the name of the company my dad works for. Literally just the name - no salary changes or anything. And his company sends the forms out last minute which makes it unlikely we’ll be able to submit the updated info by the 15 Feb. deadline.

To just get to the point I want to make - if nothing is going to change on the FAFSA application, you might as well submit now (especially if you’re in the situation my family is in). Otherwise it probably won’t hurt to wait.

The FA site for ED students also says “The College Board will contact admitted students in February with detailed submission instructions.” This could be more related to the CSS and IDOC. It might not hurt to submit the FAFSA now if you feel the need (or if family income is identical as JeremyMC27 suggests), but we’re going to wait until we at least have our 2013 W-2s. Cornell already has ourestimated package based on 2012, so it’s not really supplying them with new information. Also, if you submit your FAFSA now, you still have to resubmit with 2013 tax info in Feb and I don’t see an advantage in this case.
