Fafsa

You can check your D’s portals on the schools where you have submitted the FAFSA to see if they have it recorded as received then it should be safe to delete it and add new schools. Calling also works but can be frustrating as there seem to be many different offices involved with MT candidates…!

You should have received an email from fafsa saying that it was successfully processed. You can delete and add if you did. I’ve yet to receive an email from any school saying that they’ve received the info, but they have. I could check most of them on online portals to be sure.

@cellomom51 - thanks for the tip. I’ll avoid calling for now - their phones are probably ringing off the hook.

Yes, after getting that Fafsa email saying they got the original 10 schools, we successfully deleted one to add the 11th. Both the one we deleted and the one we added are showing up on the school portals.

@GSOMTMom we did receive the email from FAFSA saying that it was successfully processed, but it just doesn’t feel like a confirmation from the schools. I wish that they communicated more positively - yes we got it, quit worrying about it. Know what I mean?

Yup, but they don’t. Once I checked a couple of portals, I felt good that everyone had received them.

cheeseheadmike, once the FAFSA has been successfully processed, there’s unfortunately nothing to do from our end but wait. In many schools, you don’t hear about need based financial need awards until mid April. :frowning: Yes, it can be excruciating.

Have a question do the acceptance folders usually have if they awarded you any merit scholarships or does th as t come later? He only audition two weeks ago so I wasn’t sure

Merit scholarships are not need based; they are not based on the FAFSA. So they are often announced with the acceptance, but not always. Need based awards that are based on the FAFSA come later, usually mid April.

Does anyone know off the top of their heads if there are schools who withhold an acceptance until the FAFSA and/or CSS is updated with the current information? The last piece of information for our taxes didn’t arrive in the mail until last week, so we are still waiting to have them submitted.

No, the acceptances are separate from the financial piece.

Thank you connections. It was one of those random thoughts that popped into my head at 2:30 this morning

Why do we get financial aid packages before admittance to the school? Considering the large number of kids that audition - it seems like a lot of work for the financial aid dpt when, in some cases, only a handful of kids will be selected.

If you were already academically accepted to the school that would be why. My D received Financial Aid packages for all the schools she was academially accepted to. Those schools that were contingent on an artistic acceptance at the same time as a school acceptance we did not receive the FA packages for.

Some of the schools will ask if you want to go the BA route in the program while a couple gave my D a chance to re-audition in Novemeber or the end of the year for their BFA if she came as a BA student.

Thanks for the reply. I know everyone is in the same boat but it sure is a drag to get a really generous financial offer from a school you’re waiting on and may not get accepted to. S was accepted into the college so what you say makes sense. Oh well…hurry up and wait. ~X(
