If you start college in June and are hoping for financial aid you will need to file the 2007-2008 FAFSA as the summer classes come under the previous year for federal aid purposes. Then you will need to file 2008-2009 FAFSA for classes starting in the fall. 2007-2008 can be filed now - 2008-2009 is available jan 1st.

As sybbie said - your EFC will be lowered by your sister and you being in school at the same time. The parent part of the EFC will be halved between you (ie if the parent part is 3000 then it will be divided between the 2 in school so will be 1500). Any portion of the EFC generated by the individual student’s income/assets will stay the same.

I believe it is possible to ask for an adjustment to allow for the fact that your Mom is in college. You cannot file it that way on FAFSA but can ask your school for an adjustment which may be possible if your Mom is at college pursuing a degree.

It is worth asking anyway.
