I qualify for 100% BF and have Florida prepaid as well. Is it really necessary to fill out FAFSA? What would be the pros/cons of doing it in my position? (I am not too familiar with the system as you can tell)

What's your EFC? Have you used any finaid calculators?
UF only costs <10k per year, so probably not. =) Unless your family has a low income.

No idea what my EFC is and while my family isn't very wealthy, with BF and prepaid covering tuition, room and board are definitely affordable.

You might want to do it anyways, for other schools or whatever... just to be on the safe side

I only applied to UF and FSU

As ridiculous as it is, FSU was my safety and I'm worried about the UF decision

I got into FSU honors, so I might be somewhat close to getting into UF. =)

vincanity1,

We were advised to fill out the FAFSA eventhough we knew our son would not be eligible for financial aid. However, the university said he would only be considered for merit money (UCF, in this case) if we had turned in a FAFSA. Otherwise, he wouldn't be considered for merit money, which was not need-based.

zebes

I agree with zebes. My S school told us the same thing. In order to qualify for merit scholarship, even though we are not qualify for need-based money, we have to file FAFSA. My S does work-study as well, and he would not be qualified for work-study if we don't file the FAFSA. Hope this helps.

vincanity - absolutely fill it out. You may or may not qualify for need based aid but will never know if you do not complete FAFSA.

And sk8's point is an excellent one. Many campus jobs are WS. My D has a WS job as a lab assistant which has intangible benefits such as intereacting with faculty that she would not otherwise see except in large class settings.
