When filling out the FAFSA, is it possible to use the 2007 tax return? The tax return for 2008 is due in April of 2009 so I was wondering if it is possible to submit a FAFSA for the 2009-2010 school year with the 2007 tax return?

Use 2007 for FASFA4CASTER
Use 2008 for FASFA.

It only takes a few hours to file your taxes.

What is the FAFSA4CASTER? I am going to be filling out the normal FAFSA form. Can I use 2007 to fill out the information and then update it later when my parents get the 2008 tax return completed?

If your parents keep good track of their employment paperwork and have received the necessary documents in the mail such as W2’s and whatnot, then they can file their taxes using Turbo Tax or a similar program. It’s free, and my mom was able to get her 2008 returns done by the end of January.

FASFA4CASTER is used for scholarship and used to determine your EFC.

Just fill out the FASFA with the 2007 information. Then you can update it with the current, 2008 info when your parents have all their W2s, etc. in. This is what we did w/my son. Good luck.

Thanks Jolynne Smyth. There is no penalty or anything right for filling it out with the 2007 information? Also, what is recommended deadline to have it in?
