Fafsa

Hi.

Is FAFSA required to receive a National Merit Finalist scholarship?
Thank you! :)

No. We’ve never submitted a FAFSA and our son has a NMF scholarship.

However, there are some schools that give NMF scholarships will give a bit more money to those with need.

Fantastic! Thank you mom2collegekids!!

So FAFSA is completely voluntary, only if you’re interested in receiving financial aid? Does anyone know if the UC schools require FAFSA? (namely UCLA and Berkeley, and their respective scholarships, like the UCLA Regent’s scholarship and the Berkeley Regents’ and Chancellor’s scholarship)

You do NOT have to submit a FAFSA to apply to a UC school.

However, I’ve heard that there have been some changes for UC Regents consideration, and its become means-tested. So, if that’s true, a FAFSA would liley be needed.

If Regents has become means-tested, it must be because there was some outrage that wealthier kids were getting them.
