So, while I was filling out my FAFSA form, a question came up asking me to register for the Selective Service. First of all, is the Selective Service some type of military program? Second, it says that in order to receive aid, I must do some sort of registrations. So if I don't register, does that mean I won't get any aid?

Men have to register for the Selective Service, which is used only in the event of a draft. If you don’t register, you cannot receive any financial aid that you are qualified for. In theory, you can even be fined or imprisoned but this rarely happens anymore, but it is still against the law to refuse to register within 30 days of your 18th birthday.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. We haven’t had a draft since the Vietnam War and it doesn’t look like we’ll need one in the foreseeable future.
