I know what a FAFSA is, when to fill it out, and what to do with it, but what I don't know is whether or not I should fill one out (or have to fill one out) if my parents have an income in the 200k range. I need any money I can get for college because my dad has an expensive hobby leaving me with little money for college. As of now I am counting on merit scholarships to get near a full ride, but it would open up more oppurtunities if I could get any need based aid. Advice?

Thanks

Very little chance of much or any need based aid with $200k salary unless several are in college or there are extreme medical payments insurance does not cover. Only at HYPS would there be any chance at all.

So should I fill out a FAFSA at all? and at schools like harvard and princeton the financial aid I would receive would barely make a dent, correct?

Filling out FAFSA is only going to qualify you for a $5500 unsub federal loan.

If your parents can’t contribute a lot of money towards college, than any school that gives only or mostly need-based aid will NOT work because you don’t have “need.”

What are your stats? If they are high enough, then there are some schools that will give you a lot of money.

how much will your parents contribute each year? $5k? $10k? more? less? how much?

Since your FAFSA EFC is going to be higher than any college costs, no need-based school is going to work if your parents will only contribute a small amount.
