FAFSAs

What is the difference between fafsa.com and fafsa.gov. Are both ok?

FAFSA.gov is the FAFSA FREE website. FAFSA.com is a paid come on and should (in my opinion) be avoided. There is NO reason to pay anyone to help you with the FAFSA. It's free.

FAFSA.com is a business and I agree with Thumper, it should be avoided. I made that mistake last year and paid a bunch of $ with credit card. As soon as I realized my mistake, a few minutes later, I called the company and spoke with the CEO or something like that. He canceled my order and credited my card. I was so upset with myself. FAFSA.ed.gov is the correct FAFSA website and it is free. It is just as easy (or hard!) to fill out the real FAFSA as to fill out the one on .com.

Also, if you pay to have the FAFSA done through FAFSA.com, there is no guarantee that the school will ever receive the completed FAFSA. In addition to this, most of the FAFSA's I have seen come through FAFSA.com have such tremendous errors that the award can be delayed by several weeks. Stick with FAFSA.ed.gov...where the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is actually FREE.

If any site asks for money when dealing with FAFSA, whether to fill out or to submit, you're in the wrong place. Remember, the first F in FAFSA stands for FREE.
