fail 2 meet aid

hi i am a freshman in college and i am recieveing a grant (TAP) to pay for my tuition and i have been missing quiet a few classes and i dont know wat i should do and i wanted to know if i am in danger of being kiked out of my school? and if i will have to pay back my grant (TAP)

why are you skipping classes?
You should see your advisor to see if you can get back on track.
What are you doing if you aren't in class? Perhaps you aren't ready for college- in that case you should withdraw before you and your family incur anymore debt, so that you have time to refocus.
There isn't any shame in realizing that you aren't ready- but the longer you wait to get things straightened out the bigger the problems will be.

yes -- you could very well be in big trouble!

"To be eligible to receive the state Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award, students must be full-time, matriculating New York State residents making satisfactory academic progress and not in violation of Program Pursuit (see below)."

The requirements aren't that stiff -- even with a few F's you could do it, so figure out how to get the grades up now and then evaluate whether to continue to take some time to decide what you really want to do.

I didn't find out anything that would require you to pay it back -- you just lose it for future semesters.

so if i go to every class from now on and get all work done even if i get low grades because of missed time i can keep my TAP. BUT i 4got to say that i am majoring in Network Administration and i am taking the courses for it BUT i didnt know that the school had Graphic Design i never realy looked at the art section because i didnt have a portfolio but i didnt need a protfolio to major in Graphic Design so about 2-4 days after the first day of classes i went to change my major but i was told it was too late and i am currently taking courses that are required for Network Administration and not Graphic Design. because it was too late to change my classes from NA to GA. so there is no point in taking these courses.

At the college I work at, we are required to notify the registrar of the last day a student attended class. We withdraw stduents after they have missed the equivalent of two weeks of class.

The federal gov't, and I'm guessing state gov't too, want to know this, and if the student does not attend up to a certain point in the semester, they will ask the school for the money back. I don't know if that works that way in your state, but you better find out if you are still considered a full-time student by your college.

Go to class. If you are enrolled in college classes and you are not ill...you should be attending most if not ALL of your classes. There is really no reason for not doing so. Simply put...you can't get 100% of the information if you are not in attendance 100% of the time. Not only should you start going to classes, you should also make appointments with ALL of your professors during their office hours to deal with your absences and possibly making up some of the missed work.

You may be able to change you major at some point IF you keep your grades up. That is the point in taking these courses.

remember that unlike high school your college transcript is forever so do all you can to protect your GPA.

There most certainly IS a point to taking the classes you are in ... the government and your parents have paid for them! Go to class, get extra help if you need it, and above all: take it seriously. You are an adult now, and being an adult means accepting responsibility. Believe me, at times, most of us have to do things we don't really like in order to achieve our goals.
