Fail IB Diploma = Offer rescinded?

Hi all.
I wanted to inquire about a hypothetical situation that does not apply to me, but a lot of my friends have been discussing and debating whether or not this is true. Therefore, I would like your insight into this query.

Let’s say a person who has committed to their Regular Decision university in May, receives their IB Diploma results in July. They fail it. Would the university that they have already commited to rescind their offer?

To give some background, only 34/127 of us are doing the IB Diploma, it is not an IB School. The majority of the class takes AP or Honors classes, we are the only crazy ones doing the IB Diploma. We will graduate with the high school diploma regardless.

Do let me know if there’s any information that could help answering this. Thank you!

Unless your IB score are factored into your transcript grade, no US college will rescind an applicant from an American school for IB scores.

I’m taking the full diploma, therefore only taking IB Subjects. My senior grades that were submitted are all IB grades that I’ve earned in my classes. What does this mean?

As an example, if you score a 2 on HL Physics, and your transcript reflects a final course grade of 2, expect an offer to be rescinded.

Okay, got it. The last transcript that they will be sending is the final transcript and Iet’s say if I don’t fail any IB classes. What will happen then?
I will be getting my results in July, when I already committed to a university. My school is sending them to the university, and if they are not as good as expected what will the university do?

If you do not get a D or more than one C (or equivalent) as a final transcript grade, regardless of final IB results, nothing will happen.

Ok! Even if the hypothetical bad ib scores are sent to the university I’m committed to?

Yup. You just won’t get any credit

It depends on the school in question’s policies. For example, Brown tells international applicants the following in their FAQs (emphasis mine): International Applicants | Undergraduate Admission | Brown University

"Q: My final grades are exam results that will not be available until the end of my secondary school studies. How does that affect my application to Brown?

A: When final examination results are not available until after our admission decisions are made (e.g., British A-Levels), we rely on the predicted results as provided by your school officials and on any other academic credentials that are already available. We trust that your actual examination results will reasonably match the predicted outcomes and review the final results with care. We must reserve the right to rescind an offer of admission in the event that actual results do not meet the predictions."

Basically, do the best you can and hope for the best. Good luck!

I stated from the outset that my advice applied to American high schools. International requirements will differ.
