so im in chem 1A and i have Eichler. We took a midterm and I ended up getting 42/90 and im soooooooooooooooo upset. We have one more midterm and a final. Will I still be able to get an A in the class if I worked extremely hard???

Did you also fail math? I’m kidding, I’m kidding (sorry to kick you while you are down)

Anyway, I highly doubt you will be able to get an A even if you got 100% in everything else. Do you know how much the Midterm is worth? If it’s 10% or more then it is impossible to get an A. But I think a B is still VERY possible!

Why did you fail the midterm? surprised bu the college workload and speed? not enough time to study? too many midterms to study or? or like in most of my cases…just procrastination?

Not possible. B is your max. Don’t forget UCR goes by the +/letter grade/-

For Dr.Eichler’s class, you have chance to make up. Don’t worry that you failed your first midterm. From what I remember, if you do better on your second midterm or final, your grade for first midterm will be replaced. Good luck on your studies.

Not trying to get your hopes up from mere hearsay, but I used to hear that a majority of the bio and chem classes are graded on a SICK CURVE. Classes would average D’s on tests or something, and the curve would boost people up by 2 whole letter grades or something.

Two whole letter grades? I don’t know where you heard that from, but its unlikely. Bio and Chem classes do curve, but it highly depends on the teacher. I personally took Eichler for Chem1A and I don’t think he curved very much, it was probably a 5-10% curve at best. On the other hand, Chappell, who I took for Bio5B, curved pretty hard and at best, it came to a one letter grade bump.

To sum up, Eicher was pretty easy, not too high of a curve, Chappell was HARD, curved by about one letter.
