Failed to meet the Entry Level Writing Requirement...

Alright so it turns out I didn't pass the exam. Though my current major is Business Economics I plan to change it to probably Biology (want to become an optometrist), so I was thinking, is English that necessary or should I just take the lower level English for a few quarters? Thanks in advance.

Well, everyone has to take writing 2 and 50 or equivalent in order to satisfy Part A of the general education requirement, and since you didn’t pass the writing exam, you will have to take writing 1 first in order to satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement before you can take the more advanced class.

but you have to realize that that doesnt put you behind in any courses. you can take the same courses as any other students; you just have an extra requirement: to complete writing1 by the end of your first year. if you so wished, you could theoretically take writing1 fall/summer quarter, writing2 fall/winter quarter, and writing50 winter/spring quarter and be finished with the area a requirements.

just remember, as i was told by a fabulous writing professor (Gina Vallis), you didnt pass the awpe not because you lack writing skills, just that your style of writing didnt fit the rubric for the readers. for example: a professional journalist for the wall street journal took the SAT’s again at the age of 57 because of a dare from her son. she got a 10/12 on the essay. you’d think since she’s a pro she shouldve gotten a 12/12 but she didnt. it’s just how you write and what requirements were required that you didnt hit. maybe it was length, maybe you didnt quote enough, etc. because you didnt pass doesnt mean you lack any writing skills at all.

what score did you get?

and then click on the test scores tab

and tr1p is right… i got a 7 on the SAT writing essay, and got a 12 this time xD

Does anyone know what the score is out of? And what is considered “passing”?
What do you think is the average score?

The score is out of 12. You need an 8 or more to pass. I have no idea what the average score is. My friends who took the test are pretty half and half. Half of us passed and half of us failed. I got an 8.

Phew… I got an 8!
One of my friends passed and one of them failed.

Damn I got a 6, I really thought I did well too. I probably could have used one or two more quotes. The funny thing is that I have had an A in English all of my four years in high school. I guess my writing was off that day. Hey this will just give me more of an opportunity to improve my writing skills. So whatever, big deal. I’m just kind of angry that I had to spend like 60 dollars on the test, rip off.

If we did not pass the writing requirement. How long do we have to take writing 1 for?

it’s only 1 quarter.
