I'm a junior majoring in Poli sci and Int. Affairs, in addition taking Econ classes. Because I wanted to pursue Int. Eco for Grad. program or Phd. program, however; this semester I lost focus and received an D in Intermediate Marco. Has anyone been in this situation because I don't know what to do?

You’re basically asking how that grade will affect your chances at graduate school? I think it would be better to direct that question in the Graduate School section of the forum. Many have probably been in your situation and currently in grad school or applying to and can better answer your question.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean.

The biggest thing about failing the class is that you will have to take it again if you want credit for it. And if failing it means that you fall behind for your major according to your major’s academic map and academic milestones, you can either be put on academic probation for your major or forced to change your major, depending on how long you have fallen behind.

I would check our your majors’ academic maps, and see what impact having to retake that course would really do. If it is a pre-requisite class for any required courses, obviously you can’t take those courses until you pass the macroeconomics class.

If it was just a class you took as an elective, well, really the biggest harm will be to your GPA, which might drop a bit. It might also be something you have to explain when applying to Grad school, if you have to explain any bad grades you received as an undergrad.

Which intermediate micro course were you taking ? I just got a C in Ryvkins, which I’m amazed at since his final destroyed my life lol

I take intermediate macro w/ Dr. O. Norrbin and received a F on the final that brought my grade down, but I’m taking micro w/ Prof. Hamman for fall.

Thx. Pasbal

I was in Norrbin’s Inter Macro class too this semester, and that final was definitely challenging to say the least. Shot my grade down quite a bit.

If you’re still trying to pursue an econ grad program, there is nothing you can do except retake the class and try to get an A next semester. It’s happened plenty of times where someone has taken a class, failed it, then got an A the next semester. That’s the best way to explain a grade away.
