Hey guys im a freshman in college and i just wanted to know how bad is failing a pass no pass class? its intro to psych, a random GE i signed up for. I know it doesn’t harm my gpa but does it look bad as far as future employers and/or grad school is concerned.
You have a long way to go before employers and grad schools look at your transcript, but I think you already know the answer to your question if you don’t pass classes. You need to pass classes to earn a degree. You need to successfully earn a degree for certain jobs or graduate school. It also costs you more to get through school if you flunk classes. Make sure you do what you have to do not to let it happen again.
The above response provided good information. My concern is that you failed an intro psych class with a. 80% of passing without a specific grade? How did this happen? What behavior must you change to pass reliably in the future. Memorize the last sentence in the earlier post and act o it.
@zannah for this course a pass is 72% and the only grades in this course is a midterm and a final. I got a 50% on the midterm. (class average was 64) the professor said it was his worst midterm average he ever had. and to get a passing grade (72%) i need a 86% on my final (very hard ask). I am doing fairly well in my other classes tho (will likely finish with an A in chem lab and math and a B in chem). But thanks for your guys input @NorthernMom61
Are you sure a grade of np does not affect gpa (just to double check)? I know this must be different from p/f, but for instance at my school getting that f in a p/f counts as an f towards gpa, where getting p does not affect it.
Work extremely hard for the final and hope the professor curves the final grades.
agree w/ @AwesomeAxolotl - typically an F(not pass) will count in your GPA; while a pass adds to the number of credits completed without figuring into the GPA. The other concern is that an F (not pass) will be a ding on your SAP (satisfactory academic progress) %. Financial aid requires that you complete a certain percentage of credits attempted (67% typically) for financial aid to be awarded in future years.
yikes Intro to Psych is not a difficult course. It is still an F.
wow i did not know getting a NP would affect my gpa. luckily I passed just barely tho.
