Am 17 years old, back in high school I wanted to study medicine or atleast smth related to medicine (medical school), but I was forced by my parents to either go into the college of engineering or college pf business, I didn’t really wanna do business although I do have some intrest in management, I ended up studying mechanical engineering, am done with freshman year but I kept failing math courses, plus they r not calculus, i started with general algebra and failed it firat semester, passed it with a grade of C (I was too close to fail in it )second semester third semseter took Pre-Calculus and failed it, I still didnt get into major courses since i didnt take calculus 1. I don’t know what to do exactly. In high school I had passion for biology class. Am depressed , although i got good grades in other UC courses
Do you know why you’re not doing as well as you’d like? Is it a poor math background or just a dislike for the subject or anything like that?
Some medical schools accept statistics for the math requirements.
^^I don’t believe that is correct. Medical schools expect to see at least 1 semesters of calculus. In addition calculus is utilized in many physics classes which are also required.
Did any of the courses you did well in appeal to you? You might need to think about switching to a major with less math. Explain to your parents that slogging along in engineering is going to be a waste of time and money at this point and you would be better served doing a major in a subject which you excel because that way you’ll be way more likely to get hired.
I gotta say if you are failing pre-calc then mechanical engineering is not the right major for you. You need to figure out what courses you are good at and you like and pick a major from that.
For premed you can major in anything you want, as long as you take the premed classes such as bio, chem, org chem, etc.
