Hello,
I'm currently a senior in high school and I'm taking AP Calculus. My school does grades by quarters and semesters. For the 1st quarter, I got a C- in calculus, but now it's second quarter and I'm currently failing Calculus with a 57%. Today was our last test of the semester, and I'm confident that I at least got a B on it. Hopefully, I'll at least get a D for the semester so I can get my credit. I've already been accepted to most of the universities in Michigan, not including U of M, and I'm still waiting on MSU. My question is, if the colleges I got accepted to see my Calculus grade, are they going to reject me? I've been stressing out over this ever since I found out I was failing. My only hope now is to do good on my finals, which would boost up my semester grade. I don't know what I'll do if I don't get into college :(. Could someone with any experience on me please help me out and ease my stress? If you couldn't tell I'm very worried and stressed about this. I don't want my whole future to be messed up from one bad grade in Calculus.

Is there something to this? I mean, you know, beyond, “I failed calculus because I got a lot of the answers wrong”? (I don’t mean to be unsympathetic. I’ve had plenty of calculus struggles myself. Though, come to think of it, maybe most of my calculus difficulties really stemmed from not struggling quite enough.)

That was stupid of me. Now that I read it, it sounds like I want to beg the colleges to take me. It’s just that I’m afraid all the colleges that accepted me are going to reject me now and I thought maybe that would help, but I realized that makes me just sound stupid on my part.

Let’s go back a step. Why ARE you failing Calculus?

I’m failing for a number of reasons. I thought I could get by without doing the homework and just cramming the day before the test. The homework isn’t worth any points, so I didn’t see a point in doing it. Another reason that I’m failing is I have a hard time paying attention to my teacher. When she’s talking, it just goes in one ear and out the other. I write down the notes, but I don’t understand them. I’m usually fighting myself from falling asleep sitting up even though i sit close to the front.

Well, as long as you raise your grade to a C (hopefully a B) by the end of the school year, I don’t think your schools should not rescind your acceptence. [I’m taking that calc is your only bad class]h

From your post, you obviously know what you’re doing wrong. If you’re not doing the homework and struggling, maybe it’s time to start doing homework as it is assigned.

If the teacher’s boring, try to pay attention and maybe go after-school for help sessions.

Failing calculus=not accepted to colleges=might as well join the circus

It sounds like you’re either suffering from a bad case of senioritis, or have a poor work ethic. Your colleges will be unsympathetic to your plight, and it is possible that your acceptances could be rescinded for a failing grade.
