So I might be getting a B in my calc class. Would it be possible to fail the class and retake it over summer for an A? Can you ask teachers to give you a D so that you can retake it?

I hope, well I wish, you are kidding? There is NOTHING wrong with a ‘B’!

You could retake the course, but there is NO guarantee that you’re going to get an ‘A’.

Don’t do that, D will still be on your transcript.

Lol, you don’t think the F will stay on your transcript? An F will hurt your GPA a lot more than a B would.
(If you’re really concerned, you might be able to take the course pass/fail depending on your school’s policies.)

First, you would need to find out about your own school’s policies. Second, what’s wrong with a B? Even if they eliminate the lower grade from your GPA, the fact that you took it twice will appear on your transcript - do you really want to draw attention to yourself that way?

Even if this plan would work, it’s not appropriate. If you school requires you to have a D or lower to retake a class, the point is to not have to waste resources to let you take it again! And that’s if they’[re even willing to offer it. If you’re the only student, good luck making it up over the summer - you’re more likely to be told to retake the class next year. Do you want to waste a year that way? If you do that, the first grade usually stays on your transcript until you have a new one - that will look really good, won’t it?

I’m doing this exact thing for Algebra 2. I slacked off at the beginning, and the highest grade I can earn for the year is a C but if I earn a D I can retake online for an A, have the first removed from my GPA(saving my class rank) and only have it appear twice on my transcript. I know that’s not great but I’m personally prepared to defend and explain my choices, and tbh I need to retake to relearn some concepts or I’ll never get into Pre-Calc Honors (my math teacher is trying to have me placed into Trigonometry/Analytical Geometry Honors next year.
