Well I'm a junior and I'm doing well in all my classes except for math. I'm failing Precalculus right now and I did horrible in Algebra 2 last year. I'm thinking about switching back to Algebra 2, but will dropping down look bad to colleges or does it not matter as long as I get a good grade? I was thinking if I retake Algebra 2, my gpa will boost up and make up for the D I got in that class. I'm kinda worried though because people say that I might do worse i Algebra 2 and if I fail, I'll have to retake it. Would it be better just to stay in Precalculus?

In the long run, if you feel that you just don't get it, dropping down to Algebra 2 would be beneficial, as higher level math classes tend to build upon material taught in lower level classes, and it would help you in Precalc and Calc as well should you choose to take it in the near future.

As I understand it (and I only made it through Algebra 2 in high school, stats in college) you need a thorough knowledge of Algebra 2 to master precalculus, so perhaps you need a repeat of Algebra 2 ?

I think you should repeat it as well. I did well overall in Alg 2, but my deficiency in some of the course topics is showing in my PreCalc grades :(
For example, I was really bad at logarithms last year, and it's been hard to catch up this year because I have such a weak base in the subject already.

you NEED to be good at algebra in order to do calculus. Calculus is just concepts that derive from algebra. Make sure you have a strong background in algebra before continuing bro.

Omg you're failing pre-calc? we are on the same boat. Pre-cal class makes me die a little inside everyday (no kidding) =( Im so depressed.

If you got a D in algebra 2 the first time, then you should retake it. A D doesn't look so good when applying to colleges. and I also suck at algebra 2. In fact I have a D in it right now :(. Math is evil!

Are you allowed to do that? At my school you aren't allowed to retake the class unless you failed it.

YES! Do it! I have a D in calc right now because I didn't understand pre-calc too well because I didn't fully understand alg 2. I am VERY MUCH regretting my decision to just go on. DON'T BE ME! Lol

if you dont understand something, dont advance because in all the next topics you will be stuck

i actually look forward to my Pre-Calc classes. Thats the only class that challenges me.

I did well in Pre-Calc Honors but I'm failing Calculus right now b/c I failed the 1st test, and that's literally all we have in the system. 1 test. I didn't study for it because I was sick and didn't even think I was gonna go to school that day. But whatever, not really worried. I'll ace the rest of the tests, and my teach is cool. He said he knows some of us did bad when we usually do well so he might help us out at the end of the semester by dropping the test maybe.

How about taking Algebra 2 and Precalculus?
