My senior year is approaching it's end but I'm nervous I'm not going to graduate because I'm failing the final quarter of AP Stats. I need to pass this class to graduate and am wondering what happens if I fail the quarter. I got a 75% my first semester, a 71% third quarter, and currently have a 47% this quarter. The class is non-cumalitive and our final is worth 20% of our grade. What happens if I fail the quarter and don't do well enough on the final to at least get a D for the final semester?

You need to ask your GC about that. If you need to pass to graduate then it sounds like you don’t get to graduate. If you fail and don’t graduate then there is a chance you will be rescinded for college. I would start studying…

Senioritis??

And this is after you went and threw yourself on the teacher’s mercy and got extra help, right? I’d start with that.

I have the understanding that in HS a student will not fail a class if they have passed for 3 of the 4 marking periods. I’m sure this is a large part senioritis, but also the teacher trying to justify your future AP score (yours and maybe the rest of the class) The teacher would like your AP score to be -roughly- in line with the grade you get in the class. Or she’s in trouble a bit. She is guessing what that score will be. Are you having more quizzes lately? Is she getting stressed? She won’t know the AP results till later, but it’s on her mind A LOT ** SO **show her you are serious (or pretend as much as you can) that you care a great deal about doing well on the AP exam. Show that you know what will be on the AP Exam, talk with her about it - I wouldn’t focus the conversation on your grade, and the fact that you’re scared about your grade. Make sure she knows you want to do your best for her. After all, this is her job. IMO you’ll probably get a mercy D for the year. You’ll graduate.

Our school system is harsh ~ maybe a final grade of a D won’t happen for you. If your school system is reasonable perhaps a final grade in the C range. Do the math, the “what if” with the grading period percentages. Good luck. You’ll be ok.

it depends on a lot of things IMO. Teachers are human. They have compassion. If that 47 is because you’re just really struggling and cant seem to get it, if you make the effort, I’m 95% sure the two of you will work something out. If that 47% is because you just don’t care and aren’t doing work, it’s going to be a lot harder to get them on board with you. It sounds to me like if you fail the second quarter plus a D on the first quarter, it’ll take an unreasonably high final exam grade to pull you out, and I wouldn’t rely on that.
