Failing Math Sophomore year?

Last year I took honors geometry and got an A- both semesters. this year I took honors algebra 2, and got a B+ first semester, but this semester I currently have a D. My teacher has uploaded only 3 check-ins (mini quizzes), but I am feeling very worried about this class, because I get straight a's in all of my other classes.

My teacher's tests always feel 10 times harder than the homework problems and practice tests in the textbook. I have a tutor that I meet with once a week, and I have him help me with challenging problems from hw. Usually my teacher assigns us a worksheet or bookwork every night, and posts an answer key online. I do well on homework, but always make simple mistakes (negative signs, plus/minus signs, etc.) That lower my grade. I usually study a lot the night before test, but lately this has backfired.

Any tips on how I should study/tips for doing better in honors algebra 2? What should I be working on with my tutor?

I’m in Algebra II too. (lol) I have a 85% now… and this class is kicking my butt. The best way (I’ve been told) is to REALLY study the material. Understand why this or that happens. Doing extra problems is always good, but understand why or how you got a certain answer. I hope you push hard and try to get an A. Good Luck :)
