Failing Physics?

Hi y’all! I’m currently a rising sophomore in undergrad. I had a 4.0 my freshman year, but after taking a summer physics course (I’m a STEM major) with a less than wonderful professor, my streak is coming to an end. It’s looking likely that I will end up with a D in physics. I plan on retaking it, but as you all know, the LSAC will still count my D. If I end up with mostly A’s and a few B’s over the next few years, do you still think I have a chance at a top 20 law school?

Why did you take Physics in the first place?

Unfortunately, it’s a required course for my major.

Law school is nearly all about cumulative GPA & LSAT, so if you run the math, one D won’t hurt much. Just get a bunch of A’s to average it out.

Another thing you can do is apply after graduation, which gives you one more semester of (hopefully) all A’s to bring up your GPA even further.

Why are you blaming your professor?

@morris2020

Did you get some tutoring help? Did you do extra study sessions, and yes these were available for online courses at most colleges? Did you followup with the professor on things you didn’t understand or for quizzes or tests that you didn’t do well on?

Unless you did all of the above, please don’t blame the professor. Physics is a challenging course requiring a lot of work for some students.

My question is…why did you take this as a summer course? Those summer courses are compressed into way less weeks…requiring more work over a shorter period of time.

As to your law school application prospects…one D isn’t going to affect those. But if physics is required for your major, will a D grade fulfill that requirement?
