Failing Pre-calc....my options? HELP

I am a junior taking pre-calc and am currently failing the class, this is the first time this has ever happened to me as I have always had As and Bs (Weighted GPA over 4.0) and taken honors and AP classes which I passed with 5s on the exams . I am doing great in all my other classes (my grades are literally all As and then an F in pre-calc at the moment). Please do not advise to get a tutor and study more or anything like that because I really do try everyday, study, notes, videos, homework, everything. So now I am just wondering if I should just walk to counseling at asked to drop the class. The highest grade I will probably get will be a D, I doubt I will be able to reach even a C. This is really stressing me out and I would like to know my options at this point and how to handle it and how will it affect my chances of going to pretty decent colleges like FSU or UF. So should I just continue and get a D or drop the class? Can't I just take class online or take a different math online?

Can you explain what is troubling you with the class?
Did you take Algebra 2 (honors or advanced)?

My teacher is terrible. He goes through chapters way faster than all the other the precalc classes at my school. He doesn’t teach in class he gives you homework and then you check the top missed one the next day. It is completely the tests they are nothing like the homework ever, maybe like the first two questions will be easy but then the rest is just completely insane. I just want to know what’s better though D or drop?

Can you switch into a different PreCalc class?
Retake it during the summmer?

What worked for me was watching other people doing the problems

Patrickmjt on youtube is awesome for math help. I was able to self study precal last summer using his videos and a Larson precal text book. It only took a couple of weeks.

If you did well in algebra 2 you should have no problem going through an entire textbook self studying, although I’d recommend starting from chapter one and doing all the word problems in your textbook.

If you have the money you could hire a tutor.

I would highly suggest getting a textbook (if you don’t like the one you have) and learning the material on your own.

I can actually relate to you as my teacher doesnt really teach either.I would stick to trying to cover the material yourself (self studying) and asking your teacher for explanations when you don’t understand a concept. Good luck!

Everyone gave some advice but none of you answered the real question of what’s is worse a drop fail or a D in the class… Concerned about how it’ll affect my chances of going to a decent college like FSU or UF

What’s better drop or D??

Its only been one quarter, get an A next quarter and on the midterm get an A
Work hard  it’ll pay off more then dropping

Ok as somebody who is struggling in Pre Calc Honors (Although I have a C- but I’m working off my ass for that grade) and I have a teacher who gives us insanely hard tests, but he does teach the material well. Just insanely hard tests.

You said not to tell you to get a tutor, but if you have the money you really should, and if you don’t ask any friends you have that are good at math for help. If none of your friends are smart just ask a fellow classmate who is doing well in the class and see if they are willing to help you at all.

Read the book, I know it sounds weird for math, but if you read the chapters, that might help clear up the questions about what your teacher failed to explain.

Look at your previous tests you failed and try to figure out what the teacher’s thinking is behind the problems he decides to put on his tests, then you can try to prepare for them (It’s not a full proof plan, but it’s a plan)

And if you are still struggling, review some basic algebra/trig concepts, unit circle, synthetic or long division, and factoring or whatever it might be that you are specifically struggling on, it helped me a lot when I went back and reviewed some basic algebra.

Do all of this and you can probably pull your grade up to a low C, then at the semester or quarter (Whichever your school does) switch to another Pre-Calc teacher or just drop the class completely. But If you want to get into the Schools you named a D or F in Pre-Calc is probably going to cause them to reject you on it’s own.

So yeah I’m just going to keep trying probably because I have another test next week but if i fail that one too I think ill just have to drop. So to be clear you still think I could get into those colleges with a withdraw if worse comes to worse?

Spend the next few days studying, ask the teacher or another student who is really good at math for help, watch some videos on what the test will be on, you may even want to ask student’s who have had your teachers class before if they remember what the test you are about to take was like, and what type of questions there where. (It’s a little dishonest, but you still have to know the material to get a good grade)

Alright thank you all once again but can I please get a STRAIGHT ANSWER on what is better a D or drop and if I can still go to these colleges with my other accomplishments ???

I think if you drop the class now it would show up as an F on your transcripts… So just try your hardest and whatever grade it is, just know you did your best
