I currently have a D in AP Physics B. But UC doesn't look at senior year grades until AFTER they admit you, right? So let's say I get accepted into Berkeley. Then, they see that I got a D in physics senior year (first semester). Will i get rescinded?! Or does my unweighted GPA just have to be 3.0. So as long as i have 3 As to cancel it out, I'm good?

Also, when do UC schools request an official transcript?

You need to be talking with your Physics teacher about how you can get yourself on track in that class instead of fretting about which college(s) might rescind your application next spring. Is there any way that you can pull that grade up before the end of the semester? If you can’t, will you be able to drop it next semester and take a class that you are likely to perform better in?

When/if you are admitted to a UC, they will include the conditions for that admittance to go from conditional to final. Each UC sets their own requirements. At UCLA and UCB the conditions my daughter received with her addmittance were:

-Complete all A-G requirements
-Maintain a 3.0 with no grade lower than a “C”
-Graduate from high school

The second item on that list will be a problem. Remember that for AP classes, only “C” and above receive the extra GPA point, so a “D” would not meet the conditions of acceptance.

happymom has some great suggestions. If you are accepted and despite your best efforts you DO have a D, contact your UC IMMEDIATELY to ask what, if anything, you can do to keep your admission. Summer school at a CC to repeat the class is sometimes an option. Good luck!

If you have a good explanation, and you’re an otherwise good student, you MAY be able to work something out with the college. But I’d try your hardest to keep that D off your transcript in the first place.
