Failing spanish 2 semester?

Hi CC, sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. First time poster and I hope to get some help with a question of mine.

So here’s the story: I failed the first semester of spanish 2 which I just completed. A lot of factors led up to me just not getting the grade I wanted too. I hope and plan to do better second semester, but this F is really killin my vibe. The school I reeeeeally really want to get into is Portland State. I’m worried this F will squash my chance. My GPA is around a 2.6, and all my other classes were As, Bs, and Cs. Is this going to destroy my chance? Is there hope? I don’t know what to think! Maybe some of you can ease my mind.

I really appreciate any info. Thank you!

Sometimes in the application process schools allow you to explain in detail reasons why you were not able to perform your best academically (death in the family, major illness, etc). If there were special circumstances I would explain the factors that hurt your grade. If this course is something you really struggle in, I would get some tutoring and one-on-one help with your teacher. Show your teacher you are willing to learn and get a good grade by doing assignments, asking for help, and taking the extra mile to do your best and I think you will be on your way to making a good recovery.
