Failure in urgent need of help and constructive criticism

“hat I really don’t want though is to get my AA and work my ass off for 1-2 years only to find out later that UCSC won’t accept me. Then I will have to stay at CCC for another 1-2-3 years to take classes for another major just to go to CSU. It might have been better if I hadn’t done anything for the past 5 years sigh…”

Provided that you don’t pick a prerequisite-heavy major, you should have no problems whatsoever completing your work in 1 year.

Studentwantshelp, it could be a mistake to consider transferring to a CSU as an automatic safe fallback position if you do not get into UCSC. If you look at the “Official 2010 Transfer Acceptance/Rejection” thread, you will see that a fair number of CCC transfers were accepted at top tier UCs but rejected at the CSUs they applied to. The CSUs have really borne the brunt of the budget cutbacks and while the UCs have had to slow enrollment growth, the CSUs have actually had to reduce enrollment by 40,000 students and may have to reduce enrollment even further. The UCs and CSUs are both supposed to maintain a 60:40 ratio of upperclassmen to freshmen and sophomores to provide transfer opportunities to four year schools for students at CCCs. I suspect that many CSUs may not be adhering to this ratio in order to maintain the number of freshmen they admit despite having to reduce total enrollment with the result that there are now a lot fewer positions available at the CSUs for transfers from the CCCs than there used to be.
