Today I went to the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court to request my police record check to be done and the records clerk told me my file was clean but she gave me a letter to send with the police record check (they didn't even mark the USNA form). It basically states that they cannot release information because it is confidential under Virginia Law Section 16.1-302 and 16.1-305).

I was wondering if anyone who's lived in Fairfax County knows how to get around this and get the formed signed or if I should just mail the form that they handed to me

I believe that on the record check form it says that if the department has policies against providing the check that they just need to send in a letter saying so.

My son was already 18 when we were filling out that form in his Permit to Report packet but I don't remember not being able to get the information from Fairfax County. Are you under 18?

That may be the difference. My son actually turned 19 in October after plebe summer. If you have any questions or concerns, I would call the admissions office (you, not your parents) and get the answers you need.

Good luck to you. Our journey at USNA is almost over...only two months until graduation/commissioning and then our soon-to-be Ensign will be heading down to Pensacola to begin flight school.

We went through this twice in the last two years with our two sons here in Fauquier County, VA - just down the road from Fairfax County. Same policy in Fauquier as Fairfax. A letter from the PD stating their policy was good enough for USNA in both cases.

We also went through same in Geogia. Mid called USNA Admissions from the Police office and they told him not to worry, did not even need a letter from the PD.

I called the USNA admissions office and they said that the confidential information release form was sufficient. Thank you all for the information and help =]
