It can’t hurt since he is already accepted!
D was deferred. We were disappointed! She has legacy from both sides of the family. She interviewed and attended a Nursing Open House.
She has 98 average, around 8 dual enrollment classes, 3 APs (school offers few), CNA certification class underway and lots of volunteering. Rank not strong (top 25%) but it’s a private school. Did not submit test scores as they were below the middle 50%.
So far she has sent her first quarter report card, a copy of the registration in the CNA class at local community college and something to show legacy. The admissions rep said to be sure to send Midyear Report.
Any other suggestions about what else to send?
If she didn’t do so already I’d suggest your D send a letter of continuing interest to her admissions officer. This letter should be short and sweet - reaffirming her interest in the college and noting any updated accomplishments since her applicationwas completed. And if it is true she could add “if accepted I will attend.”
Thank you very much for the message. Will talk to D over the weekend. She did send a quick, brief email right after the deferral decision came out. Maybe a longer, more thoughtful one is called for.
We are hesitant to settle on a number one given that the financial aid would be hugely important, and of course we haven’t heard about that yet. But Fairfield is at the very top of the list!
Sounds like she has done everything. I would not send a second letter unless there is something notable to add. Fingers crossed for the RD round - hopefully she will have plenty of good/affordable options.
Thank you. So far she has two acceptances from private universities, both strong and Nursing. One is more of a commuter school but it’s closer to home; the other is (like Fairfield) a Jesuit school we also really like. I can’t say they are easily affordable but they are possible.
Fairfield is higher up on the list… but there is a concern that merit money won’t be as available later in the admissions process. So fingers crossed for both favorable admissions and merit/fin aid decisions!
Nursing is a very competitive major in terms of admissions so congrats to your D on her acceptances. Hopefully Fairfield will work out but it is fantastic that she already has two good options.
We were on the parent call last night for parents of accepted students and our D27 is in the Nursing class. From what they said EA was a 10% acceptance rate for Nursing .
We love many aspects about the school but are concerned about more forced triples even with the new dorm opening up. And as many have noted the PRICE is very high especially for us - out of the 10 schools she got accepted at Fairfield is a lot more by thousands even with decent merit. Not sure how we can justify the big price tag when we know she will be able to get a great job in Nursing as a grad at any of her other schools and those schools have good campus life etc as well. They are really pricing people out
Thanks again. So far we are looking at Scranton (very pricey but with some finagling, possible) and at Molloy with $19,000 merit (which won’t be enough without financial aid.) apparently they didn’t receive FAFSA info from November!? I called and learned there was a snafu and they will get the package out next week.
Fairfield is closer to NYC and we have heard good things … would really like D to have it as an option.
I may have mentioned already we are waiting on honors programs at Hunter and Stony Brook, too.
Oh my. your message brings me back to the same point we keep going back to… if she gets in, can we afford it?
I assume you saw in the news that Fairfield has the lowest percentage of Pell recipient students in the country. We’re hoping to help them get away from that designation!
I think the figure I saw was that they meet 81% need.
I’m happy for you that your family already has the acceptance and you will get to have the choice. Keep in touch! Would love to know where your kid lands.
Thanks - Fairfield is a great school and I am not casting any shade on it other than some sticker shock and she is our third to go to college so we have had offers between the 3 kids from over 34 different schools and Fairfield is up at the top price wise! Good luck to you as well!
We looked at UScranton and Fairfield with my S (who went to yet another Jesuit university LOL) and we liked both schools. Glad she has good options already in hand.
