Fairfield University vs Ithaca College

I was wondering if anyone had visited Fairfield University or Ithaca College and what were your thoughts? I'm stuck between the two but haven't visited either yet. I'm going to attend the overnight program at Fairfield and have to plan when to visit Ithaca.

Others I got into but aren't really top choices are Hofstra, Wagner, Manhattan College. Any thoughts on those would be appreciated as well.

Oh and also I'm non-religious and am interested in a business major.

I think it is imperative that you visit, do an overnight, sit in on several classes, talk to a few professors. Walk around, see how each feels to you. They are both fine for business so it's a matter of which suits you better. Asking strangers for advice before you see both schools is probably useless information that will only confuse you. Good luck with your decision.

or if you think it is.... hi! I'm Alyssa put it there. I'm 17 years old, my favorite color is green, and i hate the taste of donuts. There now i'm not a stranger. I haven't had the chance to see Fairfield, but I can tell you about my trip up to Ithaca College over the summer.

Ithaca is quite a beautiful campus. I went during the summer, so there weren't many students around, but the feel that I got from students there was quite warm. The tour guide was really down to earth, and not the "japy" snobbish preppy type that I would have expected. It rained that day for part of the day, but it wasn't too bad. The gym was state of the art and quite beautiful. But the true selling point was that after the tour and after my interview, we were wondering around the campus, and we saw a stream (or i guess a small pond) and there was a place to sit on benches. We decided to take a break and sit. A few moments later, this family of ducks swam up to us. It was the cutest thing ever. It dawned on me that on warm days I could come to this pond and study, and instead of being surrounded by pavement and notice like a city, I was by a stream with ducks

On my way to the campus, as soon as we got out of the car, there was a professor and his wife there. I asked him a few basic questions about Ithaca and he was like totality obsessed with Ithaca College. He went to Ithaca as did his wife. They married, have three kids, and both the professor and his wife work at Ithaca College. Both of them claim that Ithaca College was the best 4 years of their lives.

I don't know if you already know... but Ithaca College, has stuff to do outside of the classroom... (your may already know this if you read you inside Ithaca newsletter) but they have this place called the Commons. I don't know if you've been to Florida and been to "city place," but the commons are just like that. It is this HUGE shopping area, with both indoor and outdoor shops. In addition to the typical "hippie" stuff, there are some great restaurants and wonderful places to hang out with friends.

What is also cool about Ithaca College, is that there is really friendly relations between Cornell and Ithaca College. Like if your at Ithaca, and there is a class you want to take, but Ithaca doesn't offer it (because Ithaca is truly a small school, like a 1/4 of the size of Cornell) you can take classes over at Cornell, which is truly cool.

I'm going back to visit Ithaca soon, because I haven't seen Ithaca with students. If you want I can talk to you about my experience. Feel free to PM me!

Good luck with your decision making process.... and do remember if you don't like the place you decided to go to... you can always transfer.

well i wasn't going to base my final decision on what other people tell me, i just basically wanted to get a heads up on what others thought about the schools before i went to visit, like what to expect and what to pay particular attention to.

Well I used to live in Fairfield so I can fill you in about it. First of all we'll start with Fairfield. Its a town of about 60,000 and the campus is set in the center of town not far from downtown. There are about 6,000 kids and the campus has very nice dorms. Most Fairfield U kids are the average preppy students from both public and private schools. A lot have money and some don't. Chances are if you are an upperclassment you will live by Fairfield Beach in a townhouse. Fairfield U has good programs and Division I athletics any more questions ask because I just moved a few months ago so I can fill you in.

is the beach there nice? like the jersey shore type? i prob won't be goin to the beach when i visit on friday.

no the beach is not like jersey shore but it is nice and many Fairfield U people live right next to the beach or down the road from it!
