Fairly average student, what are my chances

I just got my june sat's and i decided to see what everyone thought my chances were at certain colleges

SAT I: 720cr 560m 620w

SAT II: 770 History and 540 English

GPA: 3.3w 4.3 uw

APs: eng (11) hist (11) and taking psych, euro, and eng next year

highest level classes (GT) in science english and history in 9 and 10 and honors for all other academics

had a job from last july to last febuary and am planning on getting another soon

summer, fall, and winter lax for 9,10, and 11 and spring lax for 9 and 10 and 3 camps and clinics in 9 and 10

treasurer of young republicans club for this year and in student sharing coalition (community service organization)

i also play guitar have taken in for 3 straight years in school and practice about an hour a day maybe thats a hook

im looking at BC, BU, William and Mary, GWU, Laffayette, Tulane, U Richmond, W&L, and Wake as reaches
Clemson, Fordham, JMU, Miami U Oxford, Penn state, U Del, UMCP, Villanova and VT are my matches and safties

i realize that my ec's and gpa are pretty weak but im hoping my rec's and essays will be strong and i hope to raise my gpa dramatically next year so could you please tell me if this is a feasable list or possilby some other similar colleges that i could get into

oh and my rank is 64/389

any ideas /?

A quick note, kevman--unless you took nothing but honors courses all the way through high school, it is impossible for your UW GPA to be 3.3 and your W GPA to be 4.3--and from what you said, at least three of your classes were GT, meaning they weren't honors.

For this reason, I'm going to modify your stats downward slightly before I start rating you--I'm presuming your 3.3 GPA U/W and around a 3.8 to 3.9 W GPA.

Therefore, I rank your chances as:
BC, BU, William and Mary, GWU, Lafayette, Tulane, W&L, and Wake as reaches
Maryland--slight reach to reach
Richmond, Penn State and Villanova--slight reach (Penn State is strong on UW GPA being at least 3.4 to 3.5)
Clemson, Fordham, Miami U Oxford, U Del, and VT are matches
JMU--safeties

So, we're pretty close to being totally in agreement--just a few minor differences. Obviously the thing that's hurting your chances the most is the math score on the SAT I--so if you think taking the ACT or retaking to improve the math is possible--go for it--because even some of your matches may give you a problem if they are concerned about that score.

Best of luck.

thanks and yea i got my new gpa's and their 3.34uw and 4.234w so good guess

Well, I still ranked your W GPA too low--so based upon what you just posted, I'd move the rank on George Washington and Maryland to slight reaches, and Univ of Richmond to a match.

Maryland= slight reach

I think you have a good list. Do your best senior year so admissions will see a rising trend. Do you have all the SAT II's you need for all your schools yet?

VT is a match for you. I personally go there. With that I'd steer clear of that school unless you like schools in the middle of nowhere. The kids are fun, but not intellectual. I hate it and am dying to transfer to UVA. W&L is a very preppy school with lots of rich kids. JMU is really fun. My cousin goes there and the parties are great and the social scene is a lot of fun. U of R is great too. You'll get into VT and JMU for sure

wow, you can go to harvard!

thanks everybody and ohio mom i think i might be taking another subject test along with retaking the sats because i think some schools require 3 of them, and i ll definatly work harder for my grades next year hopefully it wont be too late. thanks agian

If you are competitive in lax and are interested in playing in college, be sure to start the chit-chat with coaches. There may also be some DIII LAC's that would be interested in you as a player - sometimes that can be the bump you need to get past a bobble or two with grades.

The other thing that I would suggest is that you interview when possible. I am going to make this wild guess that you are a fairly personable young man, and would interview well.
